Coconut Rice – தேங்காய் சாதம்


  • Rice – 300g
  • oil – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tbsp
  • Cashew nuts – 13
  • Dry chilies – 2
  • Green chilies – 2
  • curry leaves – Few
  • coriander leaves – Few
  • Fresh Coconut – 1
  • salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time: 35-40 minutes

  1. Grate coconut and keep it in a bowl then Slit green chillies and break the cashew nuts
  2. Soak the rice with water for 30 minutes and cook it then keep the cooked rice in a vessel
  3. After that take a pan and heat it with oil
  4. Once oil heated up, add mustard seeds followed by chana dal and urad dal
  5. Saute for 2 minute then add cashew nuts and cook it till it become golden
  6. Then Add 2 dry chillies, curry leaves and green chillies
  7. Fry it for 2 minutes then add 500g of grated coconut
  8. Mix it and saute it for 5 minutes till the coconut become light brown
  9. Add salt and mix it for half a minute
  10. Add cooked rice and stir it for 2 minutes.
  11. Turn off the flame finally sprinkle coriander leaves as toppings
  12. Now the coconut rice is ready to serve
