Kondaikadalai Rice – கொண்டக்கடலை சாதம்
Ingredients
- Channa / Kondaikadalai – 150g
- Rice – 250g
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Small Onion – 2
- Small tomato – 2
- A pinch – Turmeric Powder
- Green Chillies – 5
- Ginger – 1/2
- Garlic cloves – 7
- Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida – A pinch
- Cinnamon – 2
- Cloves – 2
- Bay leaf – 1
- Lemon – 1
- Curry leaves – Few
- Coriander leaves – Few
- Oil – Required
- Salt – Required
How to Prepare
Total Preparation time: 30-35 minutes
- Soak Channa in water for 8-9 hours and keep aside
- Wash rice cleanly then soak it in 380ml water for 30 minutes and keep aside
- Slice onion lengthwise, take the juice from lemon, chop the tomatoes, slice the green chillies, chop coriander leaves, chop ginger and garlic finely and keep aside
- Take a rice cooker, add 1 tsp oil once oil heats up, add cumin seeds, ginger and garlic
- Then add cinnoman, cloves, bay leaf and fry for a minute
- Then add onions and green chillies and saute it till onion become golden
- Add tomato, curry leaves and salt and saute it till tomato become mushy
- Then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and asafoetida
- And fry for 2 minutes then drain water in channa and wash it and then add to the cooker
- After that add soaked rice and mix them well and finally add 500ml water and 2 tsp lemon juice
- Mix well and close the cooker tightly and allow them to cook for 4-5 whistles in low flame
- Turn off the flame and leave it till the pressure goes out
- Open the cooker and fluff the rice gently
- Garnish with coriander leaves for nice look
- Now the delicious Kondaikadalai rice is ready for serve
